Smoke em up Malley

Elaine has informed Terry that his cigar smoking days are numbered after this trip. These are some photos of Terry and his cigars. He even enlisted me to light one for him at the pool. He has accused us all of being part of the "Malley Clean Lung Coalition". This post is a tribute to Terry and his soon to be obsolete habit.

Dinner with An

Our driver An invited us to his home for dinner. He does not have a wife and he lives with his two sons. An did all the cooking. Please take the time to watch all the videos.

An presented us with a marble statue of an eagle. It was sculpted at Marble Mountain.

Watch with volume up. This was early in the evening and believe it or not Denny is sober. Note the squid head he has clenched in his chop sticks. Charlie is also singing along. I was laughing so hard it was difficult to hold the camera steady.

Hue

We toured the ancient city of Hue. The Citadel was the home of the Emperor until 1945. Hue was occupied by the NVA and Viet Cong during the Tet offensive of 1968. The Marines recaptured the city after 28 days of fierce house to house fighting.

A true American HERO!

My parents currently live in Florida and they are following this trip via the blog. My Dad retired from the Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. He flew bombers in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was a B-52 pilot dropping bombs on the Ho Chi Minh trail while we were stationed here. Here are some photos of Lt. Colonel Hal Crispi when he was a 2nd Lt. stationed in Siapan with his plane the "Little Gem". He is second from the left in the back row. A true American HERO!

Pool Break

Our hotel in Hue had a roof top pool. We loaded up a trash can full of local Huda Beer. Each can was 10,000 Vietnamese dong or 56 cents US.

DMZ and Ho Chi Minh Trail

We left Danang and headed north for a driving tour of the DMZ. We drove up through Hue and Quang Tri. We visited the Marine outposts the "Rockpile"and the "Razorback". We also visited the combat base at Khe Sanh. The Seige of Khe San was one of the toughest Marine battles of the war. We then returned to Hue on the new Ho Chi Minh Trail. Eleven hours, what a long day.
